I have to play catch up for Timmy this month too. He has changed a lot since his birthday. He has grown so big! I am frequently surprised by his size. In the morning I have him lean off the side of his bed and help him to the ground, but he is getting really heavy and the distance down is getting pretty short!
This summer Tim and Timmy did a lot of "Kindergarten Practice." Timmy was really excited about it and did a very nice job on all of his letter writing pages. At the start of the year, Timmy was the first in his class to be the "Star of the Week" so his first homework assignment was an all about me t-shirt. It took a while, but when it was done he said, "Homework is kinda fun..." The novelty has already worn off for him, he is already spending more time complaining then actually doing his work. Hopefully this will be a phase!
We did not go to very many baseball games this year, but when we did go the Presidents were still the highlight for Timmy. We got into a pattern of going straight to the Red Porch to eat and sit at the tables for as long as they would let us, right at the start of the game. Then we would go to our seats where Timmy would play with someone's phone and we would try to keep Tyler from kicking people's chairs or touching their hair, until the Presidents Race, which both kids love. Then we'd go down to say hello to them, and head home from there, with everyone exhausted!
Timmy is a lighthearted, silly thing most of the time. He loves making us and Tyler laugh. He does pretty well with having a shadow all of the time too, though I do hear him trying to reason with Tyler from time to time, "You can't always play with everything I want to play with, sometimes I need to just play by myself."
Tim has been picking Timmy up from school most afternoons. It's a good chance to get some immediate feedback from Mrs Sheaffer about what's been going on. Timmy likes getting picked up, and expects Dad to be in a certain spot before even coming out the door. I had a chance to pick him up one day and must not have been in the right spot, I could see that Timmy was expecting Dad to be there and he looked clearly annoyed that he wasn't! Luckily he was happily surprised to see me instead, and then turned to Nate and said, "Come here, my mom wants to take our picture."
Timmy and Caleb are at different schools this year, but the boys are on the same t-ball team again, and have had a few play-dates this school year. They get along great again and have a lot of fun together. We'll have to step up the play-dates for them between t-ball seasons!
Timmy is quite frequently a stinker. Want to know what he thinks is so funny in this picture?
The fact that I was trying to take a picture of Tyler at the time!
Timmy is also the sweetest little thing I could hope for. One Saturday morning he and I were the only ones up, and we had played one of his new favorite games, "Dragon City" on my phone together, and then he wanted to watch TV. He told me, "We can watch whatever you want, because you let me play your game." I told him he was sweet, but that I needed to clean the kitchen and he could watch whatever he wanted. After one show, he came upstairs to find me with just the pots and pans left, and he asked me, "Can I wash the dishes for you, so you can be all done and watch TV with me?" I almost melted. This past weekend Timmy was invited to a birthday party that offered to let you drop off and leave. On the way there I asked him what he wanted me to do, he said, "I always want you to stay... for everything!" Does he know how to pull those strings or what?!
Timmy sleeps with his bed completely covered in stuffed animals. Completely. I don't know how he wiggles his way in to find somewhere to sleep!
Timmy loves taking showers and having tubbies. We've gotten into a routine of him taking a super fast shower every morning before school, it helps him wake up and is really the only way to tame his bedhead! Some mornings Tyler is awake enough to get in the shower with him too. Depending on what time we get our bedtime routine started, they take a shower or tubby most evenings too. He is a water baby, even with the pool closed!
Timmy still loves angry birds! He plays with the birds all the time, sometimes just throwing them off of his bed, sometimes reenacting cartoons he has watched of them. About half of his art work is about angry birds too! He'll draw the birds, catapults, sling shots, nests, traps, eggs, and piggies and then explain to me how the whole scheme works!
Timmy still loves his cars too, he frequently sets up races for them. He loves watching Survivor, though it's just the challenges that he actually sits still to watch. He watches The Amazing Race with me now too, which I think he actually likes more then Survivor, because it's edited to be a lot more exciting, and there's not much talking and strategy since they don't get voted off, they're just out if they are slowest. We also look forward to new How to Train Your Dragon cartoons each week. Timmy is a gadget guy at heart, just like his dad. He loves playing on the computer, the iPad, our phones, and most of all playing Disney Infinity with Dad, though he will settle for me when Dad can't play. When we tell him no more electronics, he'll go and find his leap pad! It is interesting to watch how he plays with his toys, he'll use things from the video games or TV shows, and then put his own twist on them. I think we have a decent balance working for him right now, and it helps him problem solve and imagine.
A few other things worth noting:
Timmy still prefers to sleep in our bed over his own, but he doesn't argue as much when we tell him no on any given night. When he does go to sleep in his own bed, it's pretty rare for him to wake up and come down to our room now. He prefers to sleep in just his undies. Actually, he prefers to be in just his undies most of the time, and by evening is usually asking to take off his shirt and/or pants!
Timmy developed a slight stutter right before Kindergarten started. It didn't seem to bother him for a while, and other family members didn't even notice it for a few weeks. Then it was suddenly pretty bad, and it started to bother him. One weekend morning while trying to ask Tim something, he just could not get the first word out and finally stopped and said, "My stupid brain..." Tim and I were both very upset by this, but Tim handled it smoothly and quickly, telling Timmy, "Your brain is just so smart and fast that your tongue has a hard time keeping up." Tim researched it even more after that incident and we spoke with his teacher. Luckily, the stutter is not showing up in school, and more rest is supposed to help. We moved their bedtime up an hour, and it is seeming to work wonders. By Friday evening we hear the stutter a little bit, but it has not arrested his speech in weeks. We are so relieved that we can help him manage it in such a simple way!
Timmy seems to have gotten all of the names of his classmates down now, and will tell us bits and pieces about people, sometimes it's who got in trouble and had to go the the vice principal's office, sometimes it's who he is playing with at recess. He seems to be really enjoying school itself, so we're thrilled! He has also started planning his next birthday party, and was telling me last night that he wants to invite everyone in his class and his teachers.
