Tyler's Baptism

Tyler was finally Baptized on June 29th, after years of trying to get into a regular routine of going to church and deciding on God Parents!  Tyler looked very dapper and he was so excited to see so many people he knew at church.  The little ham did not mind being up on the stage in front of everyone.

I was nervous about Tyler's reaction to having water put on his head, it doesn't go over well in the bath tub, so I was worried that his grumpy side might come out!  Luckily, Vacation Bible School was the week prior to Tyler's Baptism, so he was at the church every day of the week leading up to Sunday and every time that I was there with him we would go into the sanctuary and I would tell him there was water in the big bowl and that on Sunday they were going to put some on his head.  (We talked about other aspects of Baptism too, obviously.)  He definitely did not believe me.  However, as we walked up onto the stage he stretched to see into the baptismal for himself.  Timmy was almost giddy over how he thought Tyler was going to react!

I picked him up and he craned his neck to look into the baptismal, and he whispered, "There is water in there..."  The whole time the pastors were talking to us and praying over Tyler he was looking over my shoulder at the water.  When she started pouring more water in, Tyler pretty much thought we had all lost our minds, "More water?!"  I was just happy that he was still whispering his thoughts to me!

When Pastor Ward asked Tyler if he could hold him for a minute I really thought we were in trouble.  My mama's boy suddenly clung tightly to me with his arms and legs and said no.  I reminded Tyler that I had told him that the Pastor was going to hold him and carry him around, and he said, "Oh yeah," and allowed himself to be taken away from me.  Phew!  The whole thing went smoothly and Tyler kept a happy face.

After Tyler's Baptism, the older Vacation Bible School kids got to come on stage and perform some of their songs.

Tyler was ready for a nap after all of the excitement.  He laid on the floor, under the pew in front of me, and hummed happily to himself for the rest of the service!  He perked up for a photo after service, and more back at the house, where we had everyone over for Brunch.  It was awesome to have so much family there for Tyler!  We were excited that Marleen came down for the Baptism, and that Nicole, Timmy's God Mother, was able to come, she had gotten home from Madrid just the day before!

We chose our good friends Suzanne and Josh Pavlus to be Tyler's God Parents, but they weren't able to come to the Baptism because it was during their family vacation.  The Pavlus' were the natural choice for Tyler, as they came into our lives right about the time Tyler was born, Suzanne was our day care provider for about a year shortly after Tyler turned 1, and we see them several times a week, varying throughout the year, either at the big brother's baseball games, playing at their house, or for dinner at our house.  I knew we made the right choice when Suzanne burst into tears as I asked her!  He definitely holds a special place in their hearts!
