Timmy's First trip to the Dentist
I am so proud of my Timmy, he had his first trip to the dentist yesterday and he acted like a pro! I've been slowly preparing (apparently myself, not Timmy) for this visit for over a year. Mom and I scheduled back to back dentist appointments several times so one of us could sit with Timmy to watch the other get their teeth cleaned. He would show interest for about two minutes and then want to go back to the waiting area with the toys. Tim does a wonderful job of brushing Timmy's teeth with the electric tooth brush, they call it "tickling" his teeth, and then Timmy will help brush Tim's teeth too! At the beginning of the month I saw on the preschool class calendar that they would be spending this whole week talking about healthy teeth and decided that would be the perfect time to make his first appointment! On Tuesday they used tooth brushes to paint with, on Wednesday they set up a dentist chair and played dentist, and yesterday we went to the real one. I am curious if he will tell Mrs. B. about it today, and what today's activity will be. The technician was great with him, she showed him all of her tools including Mr. Bumpy (the round spiny thing that does the cleaning) and Mr. Thirsty (the spit sucker) before even looking at his teeth. Timmy's face fell the first time he closed his mouth around Mr. Thirsty, but he kept his mouth closed until he was asked to open it. He said he didn't like it, but when she asked to use it again he let her and he ended up playing with it, opening and closing his mouth several times. She was able to do a full cleaning without any problem. The dentist also gave Timmy good marks, said there is no decay at all and his teeth have good spacing for when the grown up teeth start coming in. I'm not ready to think about him losing his baby teeth and having grown up teeth yet! I'm pretty sure that's still a few years away though!
