With the start of 1st grade just one week away, I am realizing that I have several things I never got around to posting during Kindergarten! So, from oldest to more recent...
Fieldtrip to Frying Pan Park ~
I got to chaperon the Kindergarten Fieldtrip and was so excited to get to be there! It was a freezing cold day towards the end of October. Timmy was very happy to be in a group with his best buddy, Nate, and I was happy to be able to learn some of the other kids names and put faces with the names that Timmy had been talking about! The kids got to go into the barn and learn about cows and the other animals that are on the farm, then they got to milk a fake cow, and pet a newborn calf. Next up was a hay ride around the entire property with the whole class and a scavenger hunt with our group. We had a little time to wander around as a group before lunch, we were lucky that the blacksmith was in at the time. Then there was pumpkin choosing, photo ops, and a brown bag lunch with their teachers. The kids had a blast!
Class Picture~
Poor Timmy suffered his eye injury immediately before spring picture day. He was not allowed to be at school yet, but I took him in just for the class picture. They had the kids facing directly into the sun and Timmy's eye was really bothering him, he looks pretty sickly in the picture! You can see that he wasn't the only one having trouble though! Every child was in attendance for the class picture, so I'm very glad that Timmy didn't miss it, even if it is not the typical frame worthy portrait of him we are used to!
Patriotic Performance ~
Skip way forward towards the end of the school year, and Mrs Sheaffer and Mrs Ivey invited loved ones in to see the classes Patriotic Performance. The performance incorporated things that they had learned all year long, but they worked especially hard on it for a few weeks leading up to the show. Timmy thought of the show as a surprise so he would tell us that they had worked really hard on something all day every once in a while. Their hard work paid off! Timmy had a lot of fans in attendance, Tim, Tyler, and I, Grandad, Susan, Chris, and Baba were all able to come! All of the kids knew the songs and motions, when to use their props, and how to sit and stand between their turns! (The cute blonde in the front row, left corner of a lot of the pictures is Amy Mae, who I've mentioned before was in love with Timmy all year!)
Field Day ~
Timmy was super excited about Field Day and I was excited to be one of the parent volunteers again! The P.E. teachers really had it under control, so I was mostly able to follow Timmy and his friend's around taking pictures. The kids had an absolute blast! It was not competitive at all, like I remember Field Day being, I'm not sure if this will change as they get older. They rotated through six different stations and then went back to their room for popsicles.
Last Day of School~
These last pictures were taken on the morning of Timmy's last day of school. His Kindergarten experience was absolutely wonderful! Having him in Mrs. Sheaffer's class gave us a confidence that we could never have had with any other teacher, and he was loved and looked out for more then he will ever realize! Timmy had several instances throughout the year where he was frustrated or otherwise not interested in what was going on at school and would give Mrs Sheaffer attitude, roll his eyes, or not use his time wisely. Mrs Sheaffer would handle him beautifully, letting him know what would and would not be accepted from his behavior, praising him for his strengths, and then laughing as she told us about all of it. He was especially excited when she praised him for using detail words in his imaginative stories. We worked successfully with Mrs Sheaffer to get Timmy in line and progressing and each time she praised us for our efforts with him as much as she did Timmy! I am so grateful that Timmy got to start his school career this way! Mrs Sheaffer ended up doing several tutoring sessions with Timmy over the summer so that we could all make sure that he continued to progress over the break. She has promised to keep an eye on him this year as well, which, when she told Timmy, induced another eye roll! Her words, "He thought he'd be rid of me... NOT!" :)
